Why Africa?

According to the African Development Bank Group's African Economic Outlook 2025 (AEO 2025).

  • 21 African countries will achieve growth above 5% in 2025, with four of them (Ethiopia, Niger, Rwanda and Senegal) able to reach the critical 7% threshold needed for poverty reduction and inclusive growth.

  • Africa's projected growth rates will exceed the global average, and will outpace those of most other regions, with the exception of emerging and developing countries in Asia.

  • Africa's continued resilience relies on effective national reforms and improved macroeconomic management.

Growth prospects vary considerably by region:

  • East Africa leads the way with projected growth of 5.9% in 2025-2026, driven by the resilience of Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania.

  • West Africa maintains solid growth of 4.3%, driven by the start-up of new oil and gas fields in Senegal and Niger.

  • Faced with persistent headwinds, North Africa is set to record growth of 3.6% in 2025.

  • In Central Africa, growth is set to slow to 3.2%, and Southern Africa will grow by just 2.2%, with its largest economy, South Africa, expected to grow by just 0.8%.

Africa's extraordinary but under-exploited resources include:

  • Natural capital: Africa is home to 30% of the world's mineral reserves and could capture more than 10% of the $16,000 billion in revenues expected from key green minerals by 2030.

  • Human capital: the continent's median age of 19 represents a demographic dividend that could add $47 billion to African GDP through greater workforce participation.

  • Financial capital: pension fund assets have reached $1,100 billion, while official remittances could reach $500 billion by 2035 if transfer costs are reduced.

  • Trade capital: full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) could increase exports by $560 billion and the continent's revenues by $450 billion by 2035.
